How can you contribute to the open process? Following is the brief guidance/tutorial
The SRES "open process" website has been developed to stimulate the participation of a group of experts wider than the writing team, especially from different regions and societal sectors. IPCC documents should take into account as many scientific perspectives as possible. This is particularly important in the area of scenarios, where views on the plausibility of various aspects of the described futures and their interactions can differ between regions, between different sectors of society, between individual experts. In order to allow the writing team to take the input into the open process into account while drafting the final report from October 1998 to March 1999, the open process will take place in the last six months of 1998.
Before inputting any data or comments, it is strongly recommended to follow the following five steps to explore the information on this website first and become familiar with the IPCC and IPCC-SRES processes:
After going through these steps, you may decide to contribute actively to the process. Three main contributions are invited: (a) scenarios that have escaped the attention of the writing team, (b) new scenario quantifications based on the template scenarios, and (c) general suggestions to add to the work of the writing team to date.
In order to ensure the broadest participation possible, you can share this information actively with key experts in the area of greenhouse gas emissions and their driving forces in your institution or country.
